Unidirectional Diffusion of Walking Molecular Motors on Metal Surface

讲座内容:

     Understanding the Brownian motion of molecules on surface would pave the way to many applications, e.g. drug delivery and molecular motors, potentially opening a new era of molecular nanotechnology. Small molecules adsorbed on metal surface are ideal objects for the experimental and theoretical analysis of molecular motor because of their structural simplicity. Chemisorbed walker molecules on certain metal surface diffuse along the atomic rows easily either by inchworm or pivotal mechanisms with relatively low energy barriers.

Breaking the symmetry of the molecule or external filed is a prerequisite for any unidirectional movement. It is interesting to study the simple bipedal, tripedal and quadrupedal walking molecular motors with symmetric or asymmetric structures, acting as molecular ratchets designed to generate net flow of molecules in specific directions. Detailed knowledge produced from the molecular dynamics simulations promised better understanding of the information-to-energy conversion at nanoscale.

主讲人介绍:

       桑鸿乾博士2008年本科毕业于武汉大学物理学院,2014年博士毕业于武汉大学物理学院凝聚态物理专业。2015年至2017年任职于江汉大学交叉学科研究院。目前为英国伦敦国王学院物理系博士后。桑鸿乾博士的科研工作主要围绕密度泛函理论计算和分子动力学模拟,当前的研究兴趣为金属表面有机分子自组装和功能化,分子马达的设计和调控以及有机无机复合能源材料的理论模拟。
